A Lil Sunshine Does the Body Good

A few years back I had gone to the doctor for my regular checkup and my tests revealed a very low vitamin D level. This was surely part of the reason I was dragging most days. Getting your daily dose of sunshine has some important health benefits. With all the cold and rainy days, we've had lately when the sun shines it's time to get outside. Getting a little sun each day is important for a healthy immune system.

Sunlight for a few minutes each day can help boost the body's vitamin D which can help strengthen your immune system. Many people don't get enough vitamin D, especially during the winter. It can also help boost a chemical in the brain called serotonin which is helpful for energy and better mood. Melatonin boost is another benefit that we might get from the sun. It helps you sleep better with melatonin and we all can use a good night's sleep. So be sure and get your daily dose of sun and don't forget the sunscreen.

Healthy Eating Snack Ideas

One of the easiest areas to go off track when trying to eat healthily is snacks. We often get hungry in the middle of the day or late at night and reach for the wrong things because there are no healthy options available. Always keep healthy snacks on hand. Take them with you to work or on road trips, running errands around town, kids' sports games, and of course in your kitchen. It's easy to grab the wrong thing when we need a quick pick-me-up and don't have a healthy option within reach. This is essential for staying on track with a healthy eating lifestyle. A healthier you is a healthier home. Here are a few good healthy eating snack ideas :

    Time Management

We all know how time flies by. Managing our time is one of the most important things when it comes to getting things done and keeping our homes in order. As we know a quick hop online to Google something or check our social media can turn into a couple of hours without us even realizing it. Yet many of the daily tasks we need to do really don't take that long at all if we stay consistent. I have some work to do in the area of time management myself But I think it's the key to having an orderly home. How many times do I dread doing the dishes or tidying up the kitchen, doing laundry, etc. because just looking at it is overwhelming? But then I set a timer and get to work and realize how I just got so much done in just 15 minutes. Imagine what I could accomplish in those couple hours I had just spent doing nothing online.

Here are just a few tips to help you get started managing your time better.

    • Rise up early.
    • Get a small journal where you can jot down things that need to be done for the day.
    • Set several small tasks and prioritize them.
    • Mark them off as you've completed them.
    • Manage larger tasks when you have extra time such as a weekend.
    • Stay focused. Set aside specific time for technology.
    • Take a break if you need it.
    • Plan to have dinner ready the same time each day and stick to it as best you can.
    • SET A TIMER! It realy works.

By managing our time wisely we will have less stress and get more done.

    Spend Morning Time with God

What if we spent a half-hour every morning reading God's word, praying, and getting our hearts and minds ready for the day? Would our days be different even better? Would we be more patient with those around us and ready to help? Hopping out of bed and going about our day without morning time with God just sets us up for failure. Each day's trials, struggles, and sometimes overwhelming tasks can feel so defeating. If we prepare our hearts before the start of the day how much better equipped we'll be to handle the wiles of the devil.

For some, having a set daily Bible reading plan for each day along with prayer time is best. You can come up with your own Bible reading schedule that you'll follow for each day. This will give you a place to start each morning and you'll have a goal for a set amount of time. To create an easy-to-use
Bible reading plan you can generate one here:

Spending time reading God's word every day is an important part of our Christian walk. Helping us gain insight and wisdom for our daily lives.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
    Ephesians 6:11

    Rise Up Early

Wouldn't it be nice if you could just hop out of bed every morning full of energy? I am so tired by mid-morning from lack of sleep that sometimes I just have to take a nap. This really ruins my day. Ruins my schedule and I don't get much done. If I could just get on a regular bedtime schedule I think I'd feel so much better and be able to accomplish much more.

I love staying up late at night when everyone is asleep and it's quiet. However, I am planning on starting a new bedtime routine. I will aim for 7 hours of sleep each night. Although I think six would be great too. Since I have to get up at 5:30 am every morning that means getting to bed no later than 10:30. That's a lot earlier than I go to bed now.

Getting enough sleep is essential to your well-being. A healthy night’s sleep supports a healthy mind and body.  Proper sleep also sets us up to do well with our
time management. You just can't manage your time well and accomplish much when you have zero energy and are completely exhausted.

If you are a night owl like me and aren't getting the proper sleep maybe it's time you make a change too. What better time than now. Find what works best for you. While everyone’s body is different and some need more sleep than others most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. How many hours do you need for your ideal well-being?

To help you fall asleep you should limit your caffeine intake especially later on in the day. and be sure to turn off your screens at least 30 minutes before bed. Unwind with a good book or Bible reading. A soothing bath, a hot cup of tea, or golden milk may also help you relax. Also for some, a daily exercise routine really helps you fall asleep faster. Let's make some changes and get the proper rest. How wonderful it will be to rise up early and feel good.

    Peaceful dreams.

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. Proverbs 31:15
